March 16, 2007: Major Pet Food Recall

A nationwide recall of canned and pouched pet foods has been issued by Menu Foods, the manufacturer of some of the top brand names in the country. Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Authority and Nutro are among those brands affected.

The recall applies mainly to wet sliced with gravy style dog and cat food. It has been determined from lab testing that melamine, a substance used in plastics and pesticides, was in the recalled food. Dogs and cats have become seriously ill and some have even died from eating the tainted food. These pet foods have caused acute kidney failure.

Check this link to see if your pet's food is on the recall list. Also, watch for symptoms such as throwing up, appetite loss, excessive thirst, diarrhea and lethargy. If you see these symptoms in your pet, see a vet immediately.
